One of the sources of pride of our county's Summer Capital- the City of Baguio, the cleanest and greenest city in the Philippines- is the UNIVERSITY OF BAGUIO, one of the leading educational institutions in the country.
It was granted the Award of Distinction as Deregulated Status by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) last October 2001. Putting it among the top fifty-two (52) among more than 1200 private higher educational institutions throughout the Philippines.
The quality education offered by the UNIVERSITY OF BAGUIO prepares the student to face the challenges posed by a highly competitive world of work. Its competent faculty, excellent and up-to-date facilities, harmonious and intellectual climate, family atmosphere, healthy campus politics, wholesome athletic competitions and other worthwhile activities have all contributed to mould capable, competent, responsible, dedicated and service-oriented men and women.
The University of Baguio, one of the biggest universities in Northern Luzon, was hit by a fire shortly before lunch Saturday. The fire started in the old high school at about 11:30 am, said Baguio Vice-Mayor Danny Farinas, UB legal affairs chief. The fire then struck the Rosa C. Bautista, which is where the nursing, dentistry and physical therapy departments were located. The fire razed the UB Preparatory High School, a mostly wooden building built almost 60 years ago, Farinas said."We tried to contain the fire but we ran out of water so it went up the RCB Building," he said. The 9-storey RCB was partially damaged with the top floors where the nursing department was badly hit. No one was injured. UB is owned and founded by the family of Baguio Mayor Reinaldo Bautista in 1948. This is the third fire that hit the university for the past 20 years. STAR FOTO BY ANDY G. ZAPATA JR.
